Dem. Starbucks Chairman Schultz: Democratic Party Has Gone 'So Far to the Left,' Not 'Realistic'

File this one under the “things we didn’t expect” category.

The about-to-be former Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz — the man who also began the eventual demise of Seattle’s NBA team — joined CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Tuesday and said some pretty eyebrow-raising things about the Democratic Party — and he’s a Democrat!

Schultz said what most conservatives already know but never expected a Democrat to say themselves.

“It concerns me that so many voices within the Democratic Party are going so far to the left,” Schultz said, commenting on the fiscal irresponsibility of Democrats. “I say to myself, 'How are we going to pay for these things,' in terms of things like single payer [and] people espousing the fact that the government is going to give everyone a job. I don't think that's realistic.”

No, really?! Welcome back to reality!

Schultz — who has been speculated to possibly be a presidential candidate in 2020 — doubled-down on his comments, saying that change within the Democratic Party need to occur.

“I think we got to get away from these falsehoods and start talking about the truth and not false promises,” Schultz said.

Schultz was most likely referring to Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and his “promises” to give Americans free health care and free college.

The Starbucks chief then talked about what he feels is the biggest domestic threat to the U.S.

I think the greatest threat domestically to the country is this $21 trillion debt hanging over the cloud of America and future generations," Schultz told CNBC. "The only way we're going to get out of that is we've got to grow the economy, in my view, 4 percent or greater. And then we have to go after entitlements.”

Schultz doesn’t really sound like a Democrat, at least fiscally. It’s actually kind of refreshing hearing a self-described Democrat go against his party’s current agenda, which seemingly ventures further and further Left every day.

But, let’s not get it twisted — Schultz is still a tried and true Democrat. He’s just doesn’t seem to follow the Socialist portion of his party.
