When a traditionally adversarial country to traditionally communist governments tend to be weaker when it comes to holding said communist government to account for its atrocities, it should come as no surprise when that government all but ignores their counterpart.
According to multiple outlets, the Chinese Communist Party has thrice denied U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin a meeting with their vice-chair of the Central Military Commission, General Xu Qiliang.
“The Chinese military has not been responsive,” the Financial Times reported a U.S. defense official as saying.
The repeated denials come at a particularly tumultuous time for China, as the formerly “debunked” lab-leak theory has been reignited following “fact-checking” site PolitiFact’s retraction of their “pants on fire” classification for the story that the Chinese coronavirus might’ve possibly been created in a Wuhan lab.
“When this fact-check was first published in September 2020, PolitiFact’s sources included researchers who asserted the SARS-CoV-2 virus could not have been manipulated,” PolitiFact reported. “That assertion is now more widely disputed. For that reason, we are removing this fact-check from our database pending a more thorough review.”
China has a lot to answer for concerning their possible role in beginning a worldwide pandemic, among other non-COVID related issues.
