It was Mother's Day weekend for God's sake! Can we take a timeout on shooting people for a weekend? Heck, even for a day? That's what the powers-that-be that turn a blind eye might like but never realize that society - at least the way they've currently constructed it in major cities across the country - doesn't work that way. Death doesn't take a holiday and neither does murder, unfortunately.

At least five people were shot and killed and another 21 were wounded in weekend shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. This is down from the previous weekend, which saw five people murdered and another 40 wounded.

Here are the names and ages of those who lost their lives this past weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:

Eddie Thigpen, 14

Unidentified Male, 27

Robert Hogan, 36

Terrance Billops, 23

Eujon Eversley, 31

As for the year-to-date totals for Chicago weekend shootings, 87 people have been murdered and another 435 have been wounded in Chicago in 2021. The Chicago Tribune, which keeps a tracker of all shooting victims in Chicago, is reporting that — as of May 3 — 1,042 people have been shot this year. That number is 225 more than at the same point in 2020, which saw the second most shooting victims in the last 10 years of tracking data.
