Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot can implement all the “social services” to combat the ridiculous amount of crime plaguing the city she was elected to run. But, when Chicago Police Department (CPD) officers become part of the weekly death count, maybe it’s time to rethink your plan.

CPD Officer Ella French was murdered when she and another officer were shot during a traffic stop Saturday night in the extremely dangerous West Englewood neighborhood. The other officer is reportedly in intensive care, as of this writing.

CPD sent out a tweet commemorating Officer French:

French, 29, was among the at least 11 people who were fatally shot, with another 62 that were wounded across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. This past weekend’s shootings saw a sharp increase from the previous weekend, which saw at least six people killed and another 45 wounded.

Here are the names and ages of those who lost their lives over the weekend, with nine reportedly dying during three separate “mass shootings, according to the Chicago Sun-Times (Note: The Sun-Times didn’t list all of the fatalities):

Officer Ella French, 29

Stephan Roberts, 37

Unidentified Male, 40

Unidentified Male, 24

Unidentified Male, 47

Lazerrick, Jackson, 30

As for the year-to-date totals for Chicago weekend shootings, 199 people have been murdered and another 1,103 have been wounded in Chicago in 2021. The Chicago Tribune, which keeps a tracker of all shooting victims in Chicago, still hasn’t updated their numbers in nearly a month, but reported that — as of July 7 — 2,021 people have been shot in Chicago this year. That number is 164 more than at the same point in 2020, which saw the second most shooting victims in the last 10 years of tracking data.
