This year is officially the weirdest year ever. Everything everywhere is in a state of flux because of the fear produced by the media and politicians concerning COVID-19. Take the proper precautions, of course. But the push to continue to stop all aspects of life is getting a little ridiculous at this point. Both presidential candidates appear to not be going to their respective party’s convention in order to accept nominations.
It was announced on Wednesday that the Democratic Party presidential candidate Joe Biden won’t be in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the site of this year’s Democratic National Convention (DNC), to officially accept his party’s nomination because of COVID-19. Biden will instead accept the nomination from his home in Delaware.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel also reported that none of the speaker for the DNC event will be in the city in person to deliver their speeches.
Organizers said the following in a statement:
After ongoing consultation with public health officials and experts — who underscored the worsening coronavirus pandemic — the Democratic National Convention Committee announced today speakers for the 2020 Democratic National Convention will no longer travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in order to prevent risking the health of our host community as well as the convention’s production teams, security officials, community partners, media and others necessary to orchestrate the event.
For his part, President Donald Trump told “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday that he’s considering giving his acceptance speech at the White House instead of at the originally planned Republican National Convention (RNC) location of Charlotte, North Carolina.
“We're thinking about doing it from the White House because there's no movement," Trump said. "It's easy and I think it's a beautiful setting and we are thinking about that it's certainly one of the alternatives. It's the easiest alternative. I love the building.”
Fox News noted that nothing has been finalized concerning the location of Trump’s speech.
