A Columbus, Ohio police officer was reportedly rushed to the hospital for severe mouth lacerations after he bit into a sandwich that contained glass.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, the officer was eating at a restaurant on Monday when he suddenly heard an unexpected crunching noise as he bit into his sandwich.

The officer noticed that his mouth was bleeding and, upon further inspection, realized that several shards of glass had been inserted into his sandwich. He was rushed to the Grant Medical Center where he was held overnight. The officer is expected to be perfectly fine, according to investigators.

The restaurant was shut down and assault squad investigators interviewed employees. According to detectives, it is not clear whether the incident was an accident or an intentional attack on the police officer.

Columbus Public Health officials claim there will be an investigation on Tuesday to better determine how the glass ended up in the officer’s lunch.

No charges have been filed and no other information is known.

There has been a rise in petty attacks on cops in the recent weeks, following the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. Cops have had their food has been tampered with or have even been refused service at restaurants.
