Americans have felt ignored and forgotten by the “elites,” while also seeing their country eroded by the “establishment.” One person who recognizes this is former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who understands that the election of former President Donald Trump was a huge middle finger to said establishment.

Rice joined “The Carlos Watson Show” podcast this week and spoke candidly about how and why Trump “touched the nerve of people” disenfranchised with the D.C. status quo.

According to The Hill, Rice said the following:

What really struck me, and maybe it’s because I’m a political scientist, is that the conditions that produced a populist leader, who had never been in government before, was something I think a lot of us had not paid much attention to, frankly.

He touched the nerve of people who felt left out by globalization, who felt diminished by elites. That just assumed that the conversation was the conversation they were having, not the conversation that people who’d been left behind we're having.

Rice hit the nail on the head of why the establishment acted like petulant children after Trump’s election in 2016. Those in the federal government and the elitist media that provides cover for the establishment “had not paid much attention to” the displeasure of the people.

That displeasure saw Trump popularity grow over his time in office, particularly among black and Latino voters — demographics that typically haven’t supported politicians on the right in the last 60 years or so.
