Compelled to Contraception: Dem AGs Want To Force Birth Control Coverage

A group of liberal Attorney Generals have gathered together in an effort to force employers to turn away from their religious beliefs or moral objections and only offer insurance with contraceptive coverage.

Democratic AGs from the District of Columbia and 20 states filed an amicus brief this week asking the court to stop the Trump Administration from rolling back the Obamacare mandate that employers include birth control coverage in their health insurance plans.

The filing asks the court to issue a national preliminary injunction that would stop the federal government from allowing employers with a religious or moral objection the ability to remove contraceptive care and services from their insurance.

“While we have won a preliminary injunction in a similar lawsuit, that injunction does not apply nationwide, which is why I have joined this amicus,” said Attorney General Mark Herring of Virginia said in a press release.

Joining Attorney General Herring in filing the amicus brief are the attorneys general of California, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.
