Jack Phillips, a Colorado baker and the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, has found himself being dragged back into court for the third time for refusing to violate his own Christian beliefs and make cakes celebrating same-sex marriages and “gender transitions.”

Phillips was cast unwittingly into the public spotlight in 2012 when a gay couple sued him for politely declining to bake a cake for their same-sex wedding ceremony, saying that while he doesn’t refuse to serve individual customers based on their sexual orientation, he couldn’t in good conscience create a work of art celebrating an event he fundamentally opposes. The couple sued, and Phillips found himself the target of the state of Colorado.

Phillips went on to win his high-profile Supreme Court case last year when SCOTUS narrowly ruled that the state had violated his First Amendment rights by showing “clear and impermissible” hostility toward the baker’s religious beliefs.

The day he won the case, however, Phillips was immediately sued by a transgender attorney who demanded he bake a cake celebrating the lawyer’s male-to-female “transition.” As expected, Phillips refused, and the attorney sued. The state of Colorado again targeted Phillips for discrimination – except this time, Phillips and his representatives at the Alliance Defending Freedom sued them right back. The case was eventually dismissed.

Now, that same lawyer who targeted Phillips for not baking the pro-trans cake is suing Phillips personally in state court, demanding damages and legal fees from the lawsuit that he himself started to make a point.

“If successful, it could bring about Jack’s and his family’s financial ruin,” Phillips’ attorneys at ADF said in a statement. “But that shouldn’t happen because Jack serves all people; he just can’t express every message or celebrate every event that is asked of him. And he shouldn’t be forced to. No American should be bullied or banished from the marketplace simply for living and working consistently with their faith. But this new lawsuit threatens just that.”

Speaking with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham Thursday night, Phillips said he feels “harassed” by the constant court battles.

“This time, Laura, I really feel like I’m being harassed,” Phillips said. “I’ve been sued by the state twice now and they lost both times. And the attorney who instigated the second lawsuit against me has now taken it to sue me personally, this time asking for damages and legal fees which would lead me to bankruptcy and ruin my company.”

Phillips’ attorney Jeremy Tedesco also confirmed on the show that in addition to being sued now three times, Phillips has been harassed by the transgender lawyer via email.
