During the PBS Democratic presidential debate in Milwaukee on Thursday, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton claimed that she wants people to vote for her not because she’s a woman, but because she has the qualifications and experience to serve as the next U.S. President.

“I am not asking people to support me because I’m a woman,” said Clinton. “I’m asking people to support me because I think I’m the most qualified, experienced, and ready person to be the President and the Commander-in-Chief.”

On the campaign trail, Clinton has time and time again embraced the narrative of her becoming the first female President, calling herself "an outsider" and a woman in the White House "quite a change."
