While Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot seems to be more concerned with Ivanka Trump's tweets about the violence in the Windy City, people are being shot at an increasingly steady rate. Police are taking some weapons off the street, but even though Chicago already has some of the country’s toughest gun laws, the mayor thinks the answer to the violence is putting restrictions on legal gun owners.

Sadly, in the wake of all of that, another four people were murdered and 43 more were wounded as a result of shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Here’s an example of this past weekend’s violence:

On Saturday, a 16-year-old boy was shot to death in Little Village on the Southwest Side.

William Granados was in the front seat of a vehicle about 1:53 a.m. in the 3400 block of West 24th Street when someone opened fire from the sidewalk, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Granados was struck in the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. An autopsy ruled Grandados’ death a homicide, saying he died of a gunshot wound to the head.

This past weekend’s round of shootings brings the total number of weekend shooting victims up to 544 since Memorial Day weekend, with 66 of those unfortunately dying from their wounds.

That’s 544 people shot in just 12 weekends, which gives Chicago an average of 45 people shot every single weekend since late May.

Despite the majority of shootings in Chicago being carried out with illegally-owned weapons, Lightfoot reiterated her stance that the answer to all of this violence is more regulation.

“We have to have a uniform system that’s got to be the floor,” Lightfoot told Al Sharpton Friday morning on MSNBC. “Of course we need an assault weapons ban as well, but let’s start with getting universal background checks.”

Again, how does that stop criminals from shooting up the city of Chicago every single day, let alone weekend?
