Chicago Mayor Gives CNN Non-Answer When Asked About Violence Currently Plaguing City

Holy empty words, Batman! Imagine being able to completely deflect from actual problems by giving total non-answers to serious questions. It seems that only politicians have the luxury of doing so without direct consequences for their indifference.

Democratic Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was asked about the escalation in violence the city she was elected to run has been experiencing as of late. In typical Chicago politician fashion, Lightfoot gave a complete non-answer and said a lot without saying pretty much anything at all. Although, to be fair, I think I heard “COVID” as one of her buzzwords.

CNN correspondent Omar Jimenez went against the usual CNN protocol and asked someone on the left a straight forward question that warranted a straight forward answer.

“Compared to last year, shootings up 40 percent, homicides up 30 percent,” Jimenez said before asking his question. “So just point blank, what is happening right now?”

That’s a fair question. Lightfoot didn’t disappoint by giving an answer that might make even the most hardcore leftist scratch their head and ask, ‘Huh?’

“All of these forces are coming together at the same time and making it very difficult,” Lightfoot responded. “The ecosystem of public safety - that isn’t just law enforcement but is local, community-based - they, too, have really been hit hard by COVID and are now just kind of coming back online and getting their footing.”

What the heck are you talking about, lady? The closest thing I could come up with as an answer was when Lightfoot mentioned COVID. But that can’t be what she thinks is that primary reason for the uptick in violence in Chicago, can it?

Apparently so, because Lightfoot said it without any trepidation.

As someone who covers the shootings that occur every single weekend in my hometown of Chicago, this type of non-answer is nothing new from a “Chicago politician.” They never accept any blame for what’s happening in the city and always find some scapegoat to compensate for their lack of competence.

Portions of the city have kept Chicago as one of the country’s most violent cities for decades. And as much as I hear Chicagoans — who still live in the city and the surrounding areas —  complain about the incompetence of elected officials, they never do anything to change the situations the city repeatedly finds itself in.

Well done, mayor. Spoken like a true politician.
