Over the last couple of weekends, Chicago has seen a drop in total shootings. However, four people were still killed as a result of wounds they suffered during shootings over this past weekend. That’s still four too many, and two more than the previous weekend, despite another drop in overall weekend shootings victims.
After the previous weekend where at least 19 people were shot, two of which died, this past weekend’s activity in Chicago saw another 16 people fall victim to shootings across the Chicagoland area, with the four people mentioned above dying from their wounds.
Here’s an example of this past weekend’s violence, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:
Ignacio Olmos, 32, was exiting a vehicle at 10:11 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Karlov Avenue when he was shot in the head by a man leaving the same vehicle, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. The suspect then fired additional shots at him from a nearby gangway and fled. Olmos, who lived in Humboldt Park, was pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s really unfortunate that shootings in Chicago, over the last few years in particular, have ramped up to the point where media outlets keep a running tally — yet, here we are.
MRCTV has kept track of weekend shooting numbers in the city of Chicago since Memorial Day weekend. Adding in this past weekend’s totals, at least 765 have been shot in the Windy City, with 108 being killed as a result of their wounds. That means that 14 percent of people shot on weekends in Chicago die from the incident.
Over 2,100 people in total have been shot in Chicago this year alone as of September 29th, according to the Chicago Tribune.
