What do the cities of Chicago, Baltimore and Detroit all have in common...well, besides being controlled by Democrats for decades? (Hint: It’s a trend that all three cities have experienced for at least the last three years.)
The U.S. Census Bureau came out with their annual population estimates, and Chicago, Baltimore and Detroit have all seen people leave their cities for at least the third year in a row (Detroit has seen population loss for decades).
Chicago had an estimated 3,825 people leave the city from the beginning of 2017 until July 1 of the same year. Baltimore lost 5,310 people during the same time period, and Detroit saw 2,376 people leave the “Motor City.”
Detroit was once one of the wealthiest cities in the world due to its old claim of being the auto-manufacturing capital of the world. At its peak, Detroit had a population of 1.86 million in 1950. In the next sixty years, Detroit would see over one million people leave the city.
Chicago has seen problems — as has Illinois — because of mounting taxes and an out-of-control violent crime spike in the last few years. Baltimore shares Chicago’s violent crime problem.
As a matter of fact, Baltimore (2nd), Detroit (3rd) and Chicago (25th) all rank in the top 25 in terms of murder rate in 2015 among cities with at least a population of 100,000.
For Chicago, WGN reported that African-Americans leaving the city and slow economic growth are possible reasons for the population loss trend.
Although, it could be fair to say that these three cities have suffered because of the same policies for decades. Baltimore has not seen a non-Democrat in the mayor’s office since 1967, Detroit since 1962 and Chicago since 1931!
You’d think people would realize that doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.
