A video has recently emerged of a California Democratic official scolding and cursing out a group of gay men for petitioning to unseat a sitting Democratic state senator who supported a gas-tax hike.

In the video, Orange County Democratic Vice-Chair Jeff LeTourneau, who is also gay, approached the group of petitioners and asked, “Which one of you assholes is the gay?”

The group of men had gathered over LGBT Pride weekend to collect petition signatures to unseat Sen. Josh Newman for supporting a gas tax increase in the state, which would make California the state with the second-highest gas tax in the country.

LeTourneau continued to accost the group of men, saying, “You f**king belong to a party that writes our destruction into its platform," adding, "You’re a f**king disgrace to any gay person I know,  you piece of s***” while demanding that the group pack up and leave.

As the group pleaded with LeTourneau to sign the petition, citing that they opposed the gas tax because they “were sick and tired of throwing working families under the bus, LeTourneau continued, “You do not belong to our community. You also do not belong to the LGBT community either.”

Petitioner Carl DeMaio, who was at the table during the incident, later said LeTourneau's outburst was “highly offensive."

“LeTourneau clearly thinks that if you are gay, you can only be a Democrat, which is both arrogant and highly offensive," he said.

DeMaio, who is also a former San Diego city councilmember and former GOP congressional candidate, added, “The idea that Californians are sick of paying higher taxes cuts across party lines and sexual orientation.”
