Leftists are quick to condemn racist discrimination, but are all too willing to endorse religious persecution.
Take, for example, California State Assembly Member Ash Kalra, who, according to the Federalist, has introduced a new bill that will prevent persons who have engaged in “hate speech” or have been associated with “hate groups” from joining the police force. The bill is called the California Law Enforcement Accountability Reform Act (CLEAR Act).
The act targets “the infiltration of extremists in our law enforcement agencies” and would subject any officers who “exchanged racist and homophobic messages” to background checks.
But, as the Federalist noted, the bill defines hate speech as “advocating or supporting the denial of constitutional rights of, the genocide of, or violence towards, any group of persons based upon race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability" - a vague definition by any standards.

Here’s the problem with the bill: leftists believe that opposing the LGBTQ agenda and lifestyle, like many Christians and right-wingers do, is inherently homophobic. Conservative Christian police officers who choose to follow their religion are therefore most likely to be subjected to the background checks, since their refusal to support LGBTQ views, lifestyles, and "rights" could be interpreted as “advocating or supporting the denial of constitutional rights of” a “group of persons.”
Greg Burt, the Director of Capitol Engagement with the California Family Council, was disgusted with the bill.
"Should the state now ban from public service qualified, fair-minded people who happen to hold religious or political views that conflict with controversial Supreme Court decisions on marriage and abortion?” he asked.
“This is a blatantly unconstitutional violation of religious liberty and freedom of speech,” he continued. “It is also a tyrannical abuse of power from a politician seeking to ruin the lives of those he disagrees with.”
If it isn’t already obvious, whenever the left uses the words “hate speech” and “hate groups,” they usually mean “Christian views” and “right-wing organizations," and twist opponents' words to slander anyone who dares to disagree with them. This bill could easily be an attempt to make the police force the paramilitary arm of leftist politicians by slowly weeding out all right-wing officers. In that way, California is one step closer to resembling Nazi Germany.
