It looks like Congress could be seeing a change in the coming years following the results of the latest U.S. census.
The Federalist is reporting that based on “data from the 2020 U.S. census,” five Republican-led states will see an additional congressional seat added to each state’s delegations.
According to The Federalist, Texas will add two seats, with North Carolina, Florida and Montana each adding one seat. Democrat-led states that have gained one seat include Colorado and Oregon.
As for the states that have lost seats in the House of Representatives, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia have all lost one seat.
If we go by which states voted red and which states voted blue in the 2020 presidential election, Republicans could see a net gain of three House seats, while the Democrats could see a net loss of two House seats. If those numbers hold true, that could represent a five seat swing in the House, just based on demographics.
