Burger King appeared to take a jab at Chick-fil-a this week by pledging it will be donating 40 cents for every chicken sandwich they sell to the Human Rights Campaign in honor of “Pride Month,” while celebrates the LGBTQ community.

In a pointed tweet, the fast food chain blasted out: “the #ChKingsays LGBTQ+ rights! during #pride month (even on Sundays ) your chicken sandwich craving can do good! we are making a donation* to ‪@HRC for every Ch'King sold[.]”

“*6/3-6/30 with every Ch'King sold, BK will contribute 40₵ to the Human Rights Campaign (Max. donation $250k),” Burger King added in a subsequent tweet.

The Human Rights Campaign, or "@HRC," is an advocacy and lobbyist organization whose aim is to advance the rights of LGBTQ people around the world.

The addition of “even on Sundays” is a clear message aimed at Chick-fil-a, the chicken sandwich-making fast food competitor that is closed on Sunday to allow its employees time to rest and go to church. Chick-fil-a has also notably come under fire for its owners’ personal adherence to traditional marriage and Christian values (despite the chicken sandwich chain’s never having been credibly found to have discriminated against gay, lesbian, or transgender employees or customers).

While Burger King may need to tout their own charitable efforts for publicity and troll another, even more successful fast food restaurant (Chick-fil-a was rated the top fast food chain in the country in 2019, for example) to make a name for themselves, Chick-fil-a has a habit of helping others – including those with whom its owners may disagree on a personal level – in a more quiet and dignified fashion. For example, following the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando in 2016, the sandwich chain opened one local store – on a Sunday, no less – to provide food for those waiting in line to give blood to the victims.

Interestingly, they didn’t feel the need to tweet about it.
