Bruce Springsteen Claims President Trump Doesn't Know 'What it Means to Be an American'

Rock n' Roll legend Bruce Springsteen took shots at President Donald J. Trump during an interview with “CBS This Morning” when he said the president doesn’t know “what it means to be an American.”

Springsteen was speaking with Gayle King when he made his comments after she asked him about Trump’s statement during his recent Minneapolis rally where he boasted the fact he “didn’t need Beyonce or Jay-Z” and “little Bruce Springsteen” to endorse him for the presidency.

“He was implying that other people need to have all that hope and he doesn’t need that,” King said. “So he’s going back to 2016 and this is now 2019. You surprised that he’s trash-talking you after all this time?”

“Not really,” Springsteen replied with a laugh. “Anything’s possible.”

King went on to say the usual and claimed that a lot of people are “very concerned with the direction of this country.”

"It's just frightening, you know?" Springsteen said. "We're living in a frightening time. The stewardship of the nation has been thrown away to somebody who doesn't have a clue as to what that means. And unfortunately we have somebody who I feel doesn't have a grasp of the deep meaning of what it means to be an American."

As The Blaze reports:

Springsteen has been consistently vocal regarding his disdain for Trump:

  • He ripped Trump in a 2017 song titled, 'That's What Makes Us Great.'
  • Also in 2017, Springsteen opened an Australian concert with the song 'Don't Hang Up' in reference to Trump's self-described 'tough' phone call with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. 'We stand before you embarrassed Americans tonight,' Springsteen told the crowd.
  • Before Trump's inauguration, Springsteen wondered in an interview if Trump is 'competent enough' to serve as president.
  • The Boss' anti-Trump reach even affected a Springsteen tribute band, which pulled out of a Trump inaugural ball performance due to the 'respect and gratitude we have for Bruce and the E Street Band.'
