Representative Steve Scalise (R-La.), who was injured on June 14 when a shooter opened fire on a Republican baseball practice in Northern Virginia, has been released from the hospital.

The House Majority Whip was discharged from MedStar Washington Hospital on Tuesday. The hospital posted the following message on Twitter Wednesday morning:

Scalise's recovery has been one of ups and downs since he was severely wounded in June. Just on July 6, he was readmitted to the intensive care due to an infection

Also yesterday, Scalise surprised his colleagues with a phone call. He joked to chief deputy whip Patrick McHenry "Has the Senate passed a healthcare bill yet?"

The congressman is said to be in good spirits.
