BREAKING - Shooting At UCLA

Update (5/1 3:21PM) 

Fox 10 Phoenix and UCLA's Newsroom has confirmed that the shooting was a murder-suicide. Classes at UCLA have been cancelled for the day and will resume tomorrow. President Obama will be live in Elkhart, Ind., shortly to discuss the campus shooting.

Update (5/1 3:09PM) 

At a press conference, Police Chief Becker referred to this tragic event as a "homicide and suicide." The shooting appears to be entirely contained. There are no outstanding suspects and no continuing threat to UCLA's campus. They are still in the process of releasing students from the building. 

Once that is completed, the case will be turned over to the Robbery-Homicide Division of Los Angeles Police Department and will become a homicide investigation. Chief Becker reported that the methods of suicide was a gun shot wound and there was a gun on the scene. Both victims were male, but their identities are unknown. The shooting occured in a small office in the engineering building. 

The police will continue their search of the adjacent buildings, but the campus has been declared safe.

Update (5/1 3:00PM) 

According to UCLA's newsroom, the police said that there were no shots fired after the initial shooting. There's speculation it was a murder-suicide, but Fox 10 Phoenix is unable to confirm. There will be another press conference in approximately 10 minutes with Police Chief Charlie Becker.

Update (5/1 2:45PM) 

Jimmy Herren, Chief of Police at the UCLA Police Department, has confirmed to the media that there is an active investigation and search occuring on campus. He reports that there are "literally" hundreds of officers and agents at the scene, including the FBI and LAPD. Officer Harron was unable to confirm the number of shooters, whether they were students at the university and if there were more victims. Dozens of students are still in the engineering building. The campus continues to be on lockdown. 

Update (5/1 2:25PM) 
It has been confirmed that the two victims of this shooting were killed. The police are still searching for the gunman while students continue to be evacuated. 

Update (5/1 2:09PM) 

A handful of students have been safetly evacuated out of the engineering building. It has been reported that there are currently three search teams through out the campus. 

 

Original Story: The University of California, Los Angeles was placed on lock down after 10 a.m. Pacific Time due to reports of a possible campus shooting in an academic building. The Daily Bruin, UCLA's newspaper, informed the students via Facebook to stay inside and deny entry to those attempting to get into a building or classroom.

The LA Times reported that two people have been injured and that helicopter footage showed students walking out of a building with their hands above their heads.

Police are currently investigating Boelter Hall. The shooter is believed to be in or around the engineering building on campus.
