New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) resigned his post on Tuesday following a damning sexual harassment report that came out last week.

"The best way I can help now is if I step aside and let government get back to government," Cuomo said, according to the Associated Press (AP).

The governor said he will officially step down "effective in 14 days" in order to aid in the transition to new leadership.

The report that led to Cuomo's decision to resign, released one week ago by New York Attorney General Letitia James' office, found that Cuomo sexually harassed all 11 women that came forward with complaints against the 63-year-old politician.

His resignation comes after mounting pressure from the New York State Assembly, of which more than half of its members supported impeachment against Cuomo if he didn't resign.

President Joe Biden also called on Cuomo to resign.

"I think he should resign," Biden said on August 3.

Cuomo's resignation also came just two days after the secretary to the governor, Melissa DeRosa, stepped down from her duties after the AG report claimed that she aided in sweeping the sexual harassment allegations under the rug.
