The Democrat-controlled city of Boston has removed from its public square a statue commemorating the freeing of blacks from slavery, marking the latest casualty of “woke” culture that destroys the very thing it claims to revere.
As of Tuesday, Boston’s “Emancipation Memorial” was taken down from its pedestal after repeated demands from left-wing “progressives” angered that the statue depicts a black man kneeling at the feet of Abraham Lincoln.
Except that description is far from true, and lacks both context and history.
The statue, a replica of Thomas Ball’s Emancipation Memorial in D.C., depicts the black man, his wrist shackles broken, in the process of rising from the ground in newfound freedom following Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. The base of the statue reads “A race set free and the country at peace. Lincoln rests from his labors.”

Back in June Tory Bullock (@ToryShiloh) started an online petition to remove the statue, which gathered thousands of supporters. Boston Art Commission voted unanimously to take it down.
The original statue in D.C. was paid for by a group of freed slaves, with the first $5 donation given by a former slave named Charlotte Scott to honor Lincoln and his fight to free blacks from slavery. The Boston replica has stood in the city for more than 100 years.
But at the demands of a small but vocal group of ignorant left-wing activists, the Boston Art Commission is ignoring all that, having voted unanimously back in July to remove the statue. Following the removal, the group said the decision “acknowledged the statue’s role in perpetuating harmful prejudices and obscuring the role of Black Americans in shaping the nation’s freedoms."
