UPDATE: Border Patrol Agent Killed While Helping TX State Trooper With Traffic Stop

UPDATE 2/4/19, 10:55 A.M. EST: 

According to local Texas station KTRK, Agent Donna Doss was struck and killed by a passing vehicle while she was helping a state trooper check the immigration status of a driver Saturday night.

The person who was driving the passing vehicle has been arrested and taken into custody. 

KTRK reports,

Agent Donna Doss, 49, was assisting the Department of Public Safety with the traffic stop on the Interstate 20 frontage road, 1.5 miles west of Tye, when she was hit by a passing vehicle as she was crossing the road.

The second driver was not part of the original traffic stop.

Agent Doss died from her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody. There's no word if that person will be charged.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection have yet to share any further details about the incident apart from its initial press release on Sunday.

An investigation by Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) is ongoing.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent was killed on Saturday while responding to a call for assistance by local law enforcement.

CBP in a press release published on Sunday said that Agent Donna Doss, 49, had been responding to a call for assistance from a Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) trooper who was on a frontage road of Interstate 20 near Abilene, Tex., when she was “struck and killed by a passing vehicle.”

“Emergency Medical Services responded, but Agent Doss succumbed to her injuries at the scene,” writes CBP. “The incident remains under investigation by TXDPS.”

The investigation is ongoing. CBP said in its press release that it will “provide updates as appropriate.”

Agent Doss began her duty in 2003.

“Agent Doss died while performing her duty, protecting the community and the United States,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew Hudak. “Our heart, prayers, and support go out to Agent Doss’ family in this time of need.”

She leaves behind a husband, two step-children, a mother, father, sister, and two brothers.
