In other news that isn’t being covered, border agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Thursday nabbed a previously deported MS-13 gang member with convictions ranging from kidnapping to mob assault after the thug crossed the Southwest U.S. border unlawfully with a group of illegal aliens.

Border agents say they apprehended the group of 27 people around midnight Thursday on Texas highway 285. After identifying them as illegal aliens who’d just crossed the border, agents ran their identities and found one of them to be Andres Omar Quintanilla-Sanchez, a 31-year old from El Salvador and a known gang member who’d already been deported once.

If that weren’t bad enough, it turns out Quintanilla-Sanchez was on a watch list from the Terrorist Screening Center, which – and I can only assume here – was due to his extensive criminal past including convictions for “criminal activity with a juvenile, assault or battery by mob, robbery and abduction by force without justification,” according to the Laredo Morning Times.

After being apprehended, he was turned over to U.S. Marshals.

Which, as relieving as his arrest might be, only makes you wonder which ones they don’t catch.

While the coronavirus may have hobbled the U.S. economy, the dent it left in illegal immigration appears to have been smoothed out. So far this year, 345,267 illegal aliens have been caught crossing the U.S. border illegally, with another 54,503 attempting to pass through ports of entry, according to the latest CBP data

Nearly 47,000 illegal aliens were caught trying to cross the border between ports of entry in August alone, up from a yearly low of about 16,000 in April as the coronavirus pandemic shuttered many international borders and hampered the stream of migrants through Central America.
