A black Republican woman running against far-left incumbent Rep. Ayanna Pressley says she was left with a fractured leg and a mild concussion after she was attacked by two women while attending a Trump rally earlier this week.
Rayla Campbell, who's running as a write-in candidate for Massachusetts' 7th District congressional seat, says she was attending a pro-Trump rally in New Bedford when she got into a physical altercation with two women who tried to take her bullhorn before tackling her and kicking her in the head.
“They put their hands on me four times before I went back at them,” said Campbell, who now sports a knee brace.
Video from the incident shows what appears to have initially started as a two-sided altercation that quickly turned physical. In the footage, Campbell can be seen standing outside a red vehicle with her bullhorn, speaking to the two women sitting inside. It’s not clear from this particular footage what led to the argument in the first place, but at one point, both women exited the vehicle and a screaming match ensued between the women, Campbell, and at least several other bystanders.
Around three minutes into the video, the shaky footage shows Campbell and the two women getting into a physical altercation, during which Campbell says she was repeatedly kicked. The video, posted on YouTube by WBSM 1420 AM, can be viewed here – but fair warning, it includes copious amounts of profanity.
The New Bedford Police Department said they are investigating the incident, but so far no arrests have been made. In a Facebook post to her supporters, Campbell said she’s recovering at home and still doesn’t know anything about the two women who attacked her.
