Vice President Joe Biden described Hillary Clinton’s remarks about Republicans being her “enemy” as “mean-spirited” and “petty” while announcing that he would not seek the Democratic presidential nomination.

While speaking at the Rose Garden on Wednesday, Biden stated that time has “unfortunately” run out to launch a successful campaign for the presidency.

Instead, Biden stressed the importance of Democrats running on the Obama administration’s accomplishments.

Biden also stated, “I don’t think we should look at Republicans as our enemies.”

“I believe we have to end the divisive, partisan politics that is ripping this country apart,” Biden said. “I think we can. It’s mean-spirited, it’s petty, and it’s gone on for much too long.”

“I don’t believe, like some do, that it’s naïve to talk to Republicans. I don’t think we should look at Republicans as our enemy. They are opposition. They are not our enemies.”

“And for the sake of the country, we have to work together. As the president said many times, compromise is not a dirty word. But look at it this way, folks, how does this country function without consensus?”

During the recent Democratic presidential debate, Clinton claimed the enemy she has made that she is most proud of is “Republicans.”
