During a visit to New Hampshire this week Joe Biden suggested that coal miners can “learn to program as well.”

“Anybody who can go down 300 to 3,000 feet into a mine sure as hell can learn how to program as well,” he said during a visit to Exeter, NH.

Biden was talking about his efforts during the Obama administration to “determine what the jobs of the future are.”

It seems coal mining is not part of Biden’s vision.

“Anybody who can throw coal into a furnace can learn how to program for god’s sake,” Biden later added.

Fox News reports that Chris Hamilton, co-chair of the West Virginia Coal Forum wasn’t surprised by the news of Biden’s comments.

Hamilton said the attitude from Biden and others on the left regarding coal is "inconceivable" but nothing new, given the Obama administration's moves against the industry.

"It's just inconceivable how someone, particularly in his position could advocate putting tens of thousands of working Americans out of work. But it comes as no surprise. Former Vice President Biden has repeatedly demonstrated his disdain for mining and for our coal miners," he responded.

It seems Biden may have not discussed the issue with Democratic presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg, who once said, "You’re not going to teach a coal miner to code."
