Democratic Presidential hopeful Robert Francis O’Rourke has joined Sen. Cory Booker in moving up the timetable on climate change.
Both men have made claims following the January doomsday prediction by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that the “world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change.”
During a recent appearance on MSNBC, O’Rourke shortened AOC's deadline by two years.
“I want to make sure that those who work in the oil and gas industry, those who work in the fossil fuel industry, are brought along as partners,” O’Rourke said, “To make sure we make this transition in the 10 years we have left to us as the scientists tell us to make the kind of bold change that we need.”
O’Rourke’s website claims, "We cannot afford to delay any longer. That is why our ambition must be backed up by a legally enforceable standard that holds us accountable to future generations. We need a guarantee that we will, in fact, achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and get halfway there by 2030. For this reason, Beto will work with Congress to enact a legally enforceable standard — within his first 100 days."
The website also says O’Rourke will use “executive action” and “fight climate change with the full force of our democracy.”
He told MSNBC that he’ll work with anyone on his green agenda for government growth.
“I’m going to work with, listen to everyone any time, anywhere to make sure that we advance this agenda and get to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050."
