The media will take any crumb given to them and attempt to turn it into a loaf of bread. The problem with that is, truth dictates that perception isn’t necessarily reality.
Former prosecutor and current “federal white collar criminal defense attorney” Sol Wisenberg joined MSNBC’s Katy Tur Monday afternoon on “Meet the Press” to discuss the indictment of political operative Roger Stone and how it might connect to the media “conspiracy” narrative that President Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to affect the 2016 election.
Wisenberg reminded Tur of the charges, which doesn’t include “conspiracy” charges, Stone faces following his very public FBI arrest last Friday, while also conveying that Stone’s indictment shows no proof of Russian collusion on the part of the Trump campaign.
“In fact, if anything, the indictment shows, tends to show, that the Trump campaign was not involved in a conspiracy because they had to ask Roger Stone, ‘Hey, go ask WikiLeaks what kind of damaging stuff they have on Hillary and when they’re going to release it next,” Wisenberg said.
That’s when Wisenberg took a sharp right turn and put the blame of the false conspiracy narrative squarely on the shoulders on Tur’s network and on CNN.
“That doesn’t sound like somebody leading a conspiracy or in on what’s going to happen,” Wisenberg added. “They’re having to ask Roger Stone, so I reject the primary narrative that I’m seeing a lot on your network and on CNN. It’s just another case of lying.”
You don’t mean to say that the media lies, do you? I don’t believe it…Okay, I totally believe it. It’s just always surprising to see someone call out the media on one of their own perceivably, and sometimes provably, false narratives.
