Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad delivered a speech to the newly-elected Syrian congress Tuesday indicating growing confidence in his regime.

He praised the record number of candidates running in areas under his control, as well as the alleged record turnout of voters.

In his address, Assad took the opportunity to verbally attack his regional enemy and U.S. ally, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, calling him a “fascist” and a “butcher.”

Assad also spoke of his plans to reconquer Aleppo. The city has been under pressure from the regime since April, but Assad has indicated plans for a major offensive in the near future. Assad referred to Aleppo as the “grave” where Erdogan's dreams and hopes will be buried.

As well, Assad rejected the notion presented by the U.N. of a “transitional governing body.” He said he will not accept any terms of negotiation except his own, and that he will not stop until he has “liberated...  every inch of Syria... we have no choice but victory.”
