Something called a “Lil Nas X” — whatever that is — has been dominating the news cycle, along with President Joe Biden’s inability to finish a sentence. But, one thing that’s guaranteed not to grab national headlines are the victims of shootings in major cities — in this case, Chicago. It’s not like dozens of people get shot every single weekend in the Windy City. Oh wait, they do?! Then you would think an elitist media obsessed with mass shootings would be all over this every week. I guess they’re busy or something.
At least four people were killed and another 32 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. This is a marked increase over the previous weekend, which saw at least four people murdered and another 16 wounded.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported four shooting deaths after they included the death of one armed suspect who ran from police following a report of shots fired. Since the police were just doing their jobs, according to the report, I’m not counting that among those who were killed in weekend shootings. This is first time in three-plus years of reporting on Chicago weekend shootings that I can remember the Sun-Times including someone killed by police in their official count.

As for the year-to-date totals for Chicago weekend shootings, 57 people have been murdered and another 280 have been wounded in Chicago in 2021. The Chicago Tribune, which keeps a tracker of all shooting victims in Chicago, is reporting that — as of March 22 — 620 people have been shot this year. That number is 159 more than at the same point in 2020, which saw the second most shooting victims in the last 10 years of tracking data.
With the elitist media set to use the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the alleged murder of George Floyd to intentionally inflame tensions among the races, the shootings victims around the country — including Chicago — will take a backseat in the headlines until another narrative-favorable shooting occurs.
