AOC: 'We Came Close to Nearly Half of the House Dying on Wednesday'

Hyperbole, much?

Following the events of last Wednesday, when a group of angry Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol and (very temporarily) set up shop in the House and Senate chambers before finally being removed by police, Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has a penchant for not seeing reality, declared that “We came close to half of the House nearly dying” during the incident.

“And so, if we allow insurrection against the United States with impunity, with no accountability, we are inviting it to happen again," Ocasio-Cortez said, in defense of Democrats’ efforts to impeaching President Donald Trump for allegedly inciting the violence.

"We came close to nearly half of the House dying on Wednesday,” she added.

"Would we say that there should be absolutely no response to that? No. It is an act of insurrection. It’s an act of hostility. And we must have accountability because, without it, it will happen again," AOC went on.

Which, as bad and embarrassing a spectacle as Wednesday’s protest-turned-riot may have been, isn't even close to the truth. Not only were no House or Senate members attacked during the incident, having been shuttled away by security before the breach, no Capitol legislative staffers were harmed, either. Ashli Babbitt, a protester, was shot dead by Capitol police while trying to break through a locked door. A Capitol police officer later died from injuries he reportedly sustained when he was hit in the head with a fire extinguisher. Three others died from medical emergencies during the altercation, including a middle-aged man who reportedly died from a heart attack.

To suggest that "half of the House" had a brush with death is extreme reaching, to say the least.
