AOC, Tlaib and Omar Vote Against Dems' $4.5B Measure to Address Border Crisis

Despite spending the better part of a week railing against the “concentration camps” used to temporarily house illegal alien families and children at the Southwest U.S. border, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), along with fellow freshman Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), voted against a multi-billion-dollar spending bill to help address the overwhelming problem.

The Democrat-controlled House voted 230-195 to approve a $4.5 billion spending package to address the humanitarian crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border – the crisis those same Democrats just six months ago were calling “manufactured.”

Now, apparently, it’s an “atrocity” – at least, according to Nancy Pelosi.

“This situation is child abuse. It is an atrocity that violates every value we have,” Pelosi said on the House floor just before the vote. “Today our legislation is a vote against the cruel attitude toward children of this administration.”

According to Politico, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.) slammed AOC and her fellow dissenting Democrats for not voting “yay.”

“I cannot believe that Democrats would not vote for this bill,” Watson Coleman said in an interview with the press. "And that was my message.”

The bill passed largely along party lines, with all but three GOP lawmakers voting against the measure because it doesn’t provide money for additional border security or address asylum law loopholes to help stop the flow of illegal immigration that’s causing the overwhelming problem in the first place.

The Senate will take up its own version of the bill this week. However, even if the House and Senate can come to a bipartisan compromise, it’s unclear if President Trump will sign the bill if it doesn’t include funding for border security or deal with changes to asylum policies.
