New York Rep. Alexandria  Ocasio-Cortez gave a rather weak explanation for why she didn’t attend President Joe Biden’s inauguration Wednesday in person, saying she “didn’t feel safe” being around so many Republicans.

Speaking to CNN’s Chris Cuomo Thursday, the socialist congresswoman said she and other House Democrats don’t feel safe “around other [GOP] Members of Congress.”

“Yeah, you know, I think we also had very real security concerns as well, as you mentioned earlier,” AOC began. “We still don’t yet feel safe around other Members of Congress and—”

“How many are ‘We?'” Cuomo asked.

“I think a very considerable amount,” she answered. “A lot of members do not feel safe.”

AOC cited multiple Republican House members who've advocated for carrying their handguns in Congress and onto the House floor, suggesting that they might be trying to bring weapons in the House chamber to do harm to their fellow members.

AOC has made her fair share of hyperbolic statements over the past several weeks concerning the violence that occurred at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, at one point claiming that she was in fear for her life and later alleging that “we came close to half the House dying” during the riot – despite the fact that all House and Senate members were kept safe and untouched throughout the entire situation.

AOC has also openly questioned the integrity of Capitol police, saying that at the time she couldn’t tell the good cops from the bad ones,
