AOC Says House Dems Are Discussing a Commission to 'Reign In' Media Who Publish 'Disinformation'

Days after social media giants including Twitter took the unprecedented step of banning President Donald Trump and thousands of other right-wing users from their platforms, New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez now says Congress is in talks to form a commission to “reign in our media environment” following last Wednesday’s riots at the U.S. Capitol, saying media outlets “can’t just spew disinformation and misinformation.”

"I can say, there is absolutely a commission being discussed but it seems to be more investigatory, in style rather than truth and reconciliation, so I think that’s an interesting concept for us to explore. And I do think that several members of Congress, in some of my discussions, have brought up media literacy because that is a part of what happened here and we’re going to have to figure out how we rein in our media environment so that you can’t just spew disinformation, and misinformation," Ocasio-Cortez said.

"It’s one thing to have differentiating opinions but it’s another thing entirely to just say things that are false," she continued. "So that’s something that we’re looking into."

This comes after Democrats and the liberal media spent four years peddling conspiracy theories ranging from Russian collusion to ultimately debunked hoaxes based on anonymous sources and false reports that President Donald Trump had called neo-Nazis “very fine people” and labeled all immigrants from Mexico as rapists and murderers - and that's just naming a few.

But apparently, suggestions from right-leaning media sources that the 2020 election may have been stolen through fraud based on multiple allegations of shady vote counting and potentially invalid ballots across multiple states is a bridge too far, with House Democrats deciding the government may need to step in and “rein in” media outlets they don’t like to control anything they subjectively deem “disinformation.”
