Democrat Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez caught more than a bit of backlash earlier this week after she posted a photo of what she claims is her grandmother’s dilapidated, water-damaged apartment down in Puerto Rico – and she’s not happy about getting called out.
In a tweet blasted out Wednesday, AOC accused the Trump administration, which hasn't even been in office in more than 4 months now, for blocking money from Puerto Rico meant for hurricane relief - which, presumably, AOC suggests is why her grandma's home looks like a used bomb shelter.
“Just over a week ago, my abuela fell ill. I went to Puerto Rico to see her- my 1st time in a year+ bc of COVID,” the AOC tweeted. “This is her home. Hurricane María relief hasn’t arrived. Trump blocked relief $ for PR. People are being forced to flee ancestral homes, & developers are taking them.”

The photos show a sad scene of sparse furniture scattered around a run-down room with water dripping from the ceiling into plastic buckets.
Of course, more than a few people were quick to note the socialist lawmaker makes $174,000 a year, and, considering both their familial bond and AOC's own socialist bent, could probably spare a penny or two to help her own sick grandmother fix up her virtually uninhabitable living conditions.

To which the congresswoman replied she was too busy helping other people to take care of her own grandma…or something.
“You don’t even have a concept for the role that 1st-gen, first-born daughters play in their families,” she fired back at critics, without further explanation.
“My abuela is okay,” she continued. “But instead of only caring for mine & letting others suffer, I’m calling attention to the systemic injustices you seem totally fine w/ in having a US colony.”
As far as excuses go for not taking care of your ailing Nana who's living in a busted-out shack while you rake in the dough to cast votes and complain on Twitter, that's....well, pretty lame.
