AOC Doubles-Down on Defunding the Police, Says NYPD Budget Still 'Too High' Despite Rising Crime in City

It’s like the left loves crime or something judging by how they want already crime-ridden cities to defund their police even more. I don’t know. Maybe they want those funds to be invested in hugs or participation trophies or gulags if we’re going by how much they seem to love “lists” lately.

Far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is at it again, this time doubling down on her call to defund the police by saying that the current New York Police Department (NYPD) budget is “too high” despite a recent surge of violent crime in the city.

“Our [police budget] is too high,” Ocasio-Cortez said as she cited a $6 billion dollar figure, according to Fox News.

Ocasio-Cortez was answering a question from a 14-year-old during a virtual town hall on Thursday.

“It’s my job to listen,” she said. “We need to invest in those other types of safety.”

Ocasio-Cortez didn’t make clear what those “other types of safety” might include, but she did allude to what policing needs to get away from.

“We need to stop being so reactionary,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

So while an officer is being attacked by someone, or when a suspect is clearly resisting arrest, we should stop and have a 10-minute tea party in order to analyze how the suspect might be feeling at that moment?

Ocasio-Cortez wants all of these changes despite New York City experiencing a sharp rise in crime after New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio cut the NYPD budget by $1 billion back in June.

A little less than a week ago, Ocasio-Cortez faced more scrutiny over a tweet in which she called for “Trump sycophants” to be put on a list in order for the left to be able to identify them and persecute them for their beliefs.
