Continuing the absurd “terrorists attempted a coup” narrative she and many of her fellow Democrats have pushed like heroin since police allowed pro-Trump protesters, AntiFa agent provocateurs, vandals, and thrill-seekers into the Capitol on January 6, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in a video recently demanded that Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Josh Hawley (R-MO), and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) resign.

The U.S. Constitution.
What we saw last week (long, dramatic pause) was not just (longer, dramtic-er pause) a violent coup attempt. Um… But we also saw dereliction of duty and a betrayal of our country, and a betrayal of the oath that we swear.
We’ll pause for our own dramatic effect as we consider the self-serving blindness required for this walking contradiction to all constitutional parameters and peaceful ethics to use the phrase “dereliction of duty” without a hint of embarrassment.
AOC continued:
And that is why (dramatic you-know-what) I have demanded the resignations of Senators (sic) Ted Cruz, Senators (sic) Josh Hawley, Majority Leader—Republican Majority Leader, er, rather, Republican Minority Leader in the House, uh, McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, um, along with, with many others. Because, this is not just about political opinion or partisanship.
We’ll pause again as you work through the laughter.
Of course it’s about political opinion and partisanship. It’s about gaining political power any way she and her allies can. If it were about her oath, she would have called for the resignations of virtually every person in the House AND Senate, then resigned herself as the ignoble insult to the oath that she is.
And, nope, AOC was NOT done with her Land of Oz fantasy epic:
This was about the abandonment of our sworn oath, for… what? For personal ambition? For greater loyalty to a base?
Coming from the woman who in 2018 said, as part of a larger collectivist screed:
If we work our butts off to make sure that we take back all three chambers of Congress — Uh, rather, all three chambers of government: the Presidency, the Senate, and the House…
Yes, from this woman who can't even get the three branches of government right, comes an attack on the three guys who, along with Rand Paul, probably are the closest to constitutionalists as hold any office in those “three chambers” as she calls them. This is a rich, rich dish.
But she is a celebrity politician, and likely will get lots of praise from pop media despite (or perhaps because of) her towering hypocrisy and opportunism. Heck, she’s even got celeb company in the form of Alyssa Milano and David Bautista who recently called for Cruz to resign, implying that his skepticism of the 2020 vote “incited” an “armed insurrection” on the Capitol.
Of course, in all of their egomaniacal zeal to gain political leverage, they neglected to mention that none of those arrested at the Capitol have been charged with “insurrection.”
And they overlook some important points, points that outstanding writer James Bovard recently offered in a January 13 piece for the American Institute for Economic Research. Noting a degree of blame Donald Trump could accept for the chaos, Bovard added:
…the debacle would have been far less without blundering by congressional leadership and their small army of protectors. A Washington Post analysis of the ‘disastrous failure’ by Capitol Police noted, ‘Security at the Capitol building is controlled by Congress itself.’ The Capitol Police have an annual budget of almost half a billion dollars and two thousand officers – equal to the entire police forces of Cleveland or Atlanta. Video showed police standing back as people thronged inside the Capitol. The Post noted, ‘One image posted on social media showed an officer taking a selfie with one of the intruders, and a video seemed to show officers opening the security fence to let Trump supporters closer.’
Bovard also puts the unbalanced view of AOC into a lot better perspective, offering this at that one-week point:
Politicians have been tripling the supposed threat they faced every 24 hours since last Wednesday. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said on Sunday, ‘We came close to half of the House nearly dying’ from the attackers. The only person who was shot at the Capitol was a 35-year-old Air Force female veteran who was killed by a Capitol policeman. Fortunately, none of the protestors showed the homicidal intent akin to the Illinois man who shot four Republican congressmen in 2017 with a semi-automatic rifle at a softball field in Alexandria, Virginia. One policeman was killed when he was dragged into a mob and beaten, and a 34-year-old female Trump supporter was reportedly trampled to death in the clash between police and protestors. Another Trump supporter died of a heart attack and another protestor died of a stroke.
And Bovard makes another important point, a point that AOC, and every other self-described “defender of the Constitution” in that giant temple to taxation might want to recall:
Contrast the violence that lawmakers suffered with the violence that their laws have inflicted. Most of the Trump protestors were less destructive than SWAT teams carrying out a no-knock raid – as happens thousands of times a year in American neighborhoods across the land. These attacks have been aided by a profusion of military-style equipment provided by Congress and federal agencies, as well as by the Justice Department constantly championing the legal prerogatives of law enforcement to use deadly force in almost any situation. An ACLU report characterized SWAT raids as ‘violent events: numerous (often 20 or more) officers armed with assault rifles and grenades approach a home, break down doors and windows (often causing property damage), and scream for the people inside to get on the floor (often pointing their guns at them).’ Failure to instantly submit to SWAT raiders can be a capital offense. A New York Times investigation found that 'at least 81 civilians and 13 law enforcement officers died in raids from 2010 through 2016. Scores of others were maimed or wounded.’ The vast majority of members of Congress have ignored the perennial police carnage they helped bankroll around the nation.
And, of course, none of it is in any way, shape, or form, compliant with AOC’s wondrous “Constitution”. Just like all of their pork projects, their international glad-handling in the form of unconstitutional “aid”, their military adventures abroad sans any Declaration of War… it’s all insulting, unethical, unconstitutional and immoral.
James Bovard gets it. AOC might never understand. But she likely will continue to issue her Zoom-carried declarations, even as she disregards her own hypocrisy.
