Another week, more people dead, more people wounded and very few people actually paying attention.

At least four people were murdered and another 10 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. While the total number of shooting victims are down from the previous weekend — at least two dead and another 21 wounded — this past weekend was more deadly.

Here are the names and ages of those that were killed in shootings over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times (Note: Names that are not listed have yet to be publicly identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office, as of this writing):

Kevontay Toomer, 27

Unidentified Male, 37

Unidentified Male, 43

Unidentified Male, 28

As for the year-to-date totals for Chicago weekend shootings, 34 people have been murdered and another 143 have been wounded in Chicago in 2021. The Chicago Tribune, who keeps a tracker of all Chicagoland shootings, reported that, as of February 9, 299 people have been shot this year. That number is 73 more than at the same point in 2020, which saw the second most shooting victims in the last 10 years of tracking data.
