Another weekend, another example of no one in the media — as well as none of the politicians — crying or even knowing the names of those who were victims of shootings in the city of Chicago.

At least two people were murdered and another 14 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. An equal amount of people were shooting victims during the previous weekend, as at least three people were killed and another 13 were wounded.

Here’s an example of this past weekend’s violence, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:

Arturo Luna, 32, was in a vehicle with a woman at 5:13 a.m. when an SUV pulled alongside them in the 3400 block of West 24th Street and someone inside opened fire, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

Luna was hit in the head while the woman, 33, was hit in the lower back and buttocks, officials said. They were both taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, and Luna succumbed to his injuries soon after.

As I did last week, I want people to be faced with the names of those killed so they understand that real people are dying. The other man who died over the weekend was 31-year-old Anthony Harris.

This past weekend’s numbers bring the total of 2020 weekend shootings in Chicago up to 11 people killed with another 50 wounded.

The Chicago Tribune, who keeps track of all shootings regardless of time of the week, reported that as of January 21st, 105 people have been shot in the city of Chicago so far this year. The Tribune also noted that number is 11 ahead of the pace compared to the total number of shootings by that point in 2019.
