When at least three dozen people are shot in a single weekend where you live, your city has some problems. When that city is Chicago, it’s actually seen as an improvement. Oh, the world in which we live.

At least five people were murdered and another 32 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. This is down from the previous weekend, which saw at least nine people killed and another 41 wounded.

As the Chicago Sun-Times reported, four teenagers were among the 32 wounded in weekend shootings.

Here are the names of those who were killed over the weekend, as of this writing:

Unidentified Person, Age Unknown

Joe McGee, 27

Unidentified Male, 18

Recardo Fonza, 26

Joe Winters, 35

This past weekend saw the lowest number of people killed over a weekend since five people were also shot during the weekend of August 21-24.

As for the year-to-date numbers on weekend shooting victims, Chicago is now up to at least 259 people dead and 1,355 people wounded. The Chicago Tribune shooting tracker, which keeps a weekly count of all Chicago shooting victims regardless of the day of the week, reported that 3,132 have been victims of shootings, as of September 28. That is 1,033 more than the same point in 2019, and the second highest number behind the same point in 2016 (3,233).
