A St. Petersburg, Florida man is speaking out after a video showing a group of animal rights activists confronting his family went viral.

WTSP reports, Bob Hope spent Tuesday afternoon fishing with his family at Crescent Lake.

Hope’s father caught a fish and laid it on the ground, while another family member went to grab a bucket. That is when a child, whose parents are part of Direct Action Everywhere, approached Hope and told him that fish have feelings and to release it back into the water.

“I turned to him and said I respect your opinion but I don’t share your opinion so we’re going to continue fishing. That’s when six or seven people ambushed us that what we were doing is wrong and we’re hurting the fish,” Hope told WTSP.

Members of Direct Action Everywhere then came and told the men that “all animals have the ability to feel love and pain, just like we do.”

“Do you guys think that this is okay to let this fish die right here? What if this was a human child?”

“It’s not a human child,” Hope can be heard responding in a video posted by Direct Action Everywhere.

“But what if it was? They have the same ability, the same emotions as a human child,” the activist claims.

The activist eventually takes the fish away from the men and throws it pack in the pond.

Kaya Leaming of Direct Action Everywhere says since video of the incident was released, the group has been getting death threats.

Police say by the time they arrived on the scene, the protestors were already getting into their cars and officers didn’t witness any criminal activity.
