A video shows the Berkeley Federation of Teachers President dropping off his child at a private school for personal instruction – while many public schools remain closed.

“Matt Meyer Berkeley Federation of Teachers President blocks opening public schools in-person, yet has had his own child in in-person school since June 2020. Stop the hypocrisy. Our children are suffering. Open schools full-time Now,” the group “Guerilla Momz” posted on YouTube.

KNTV has confirmed with Meyer that it is him in the video.

A representative from Guerilla Momz would not go on camera out of fear that teachers would retaliate against them and their children.

But Jonathan Zachreson, with an affiliated group called Reopen California Schools, said this new tactic only reinforces how frustrated parents are with delays in returning to class.

“It’s really a message of hypocrisy where we see this union representative saying it’s not safe to go back, yet he feels safe enough to take his daughter to an in-person institution,” said Zachreson.

Meyer also turned down repeated requests for an interview.

The Berkley Federation Of Teachers has reached an agreement with the Berkley Unified School District to begin reopening schools in March and April, depending on the city providing the staff with the Pfizer vaccine.
