Heroes and saviors come in all races, sexes and ages. One high school kid is getting recognition in the face of a horrible situation that could’ve been worse without him.

A high school senior at STEM School Highlands Ranch helped in subduing one of the shooters who opened fire inside the school on Tuesday, leaving one dead and eight others injured.

The student in question is Brendan Bialy, who has since been discovered to be as a “poolee in the Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program,” according to Fox 31 - Denver.

11Alive - WXIA reporter Kaitlyn Ross gave another detail of Baily's heroism in a Facebook post calling the high school senior “tackled one of the gunmen” carrying out the shooting and called him "an absolute hero."

Bialy was so instrumental and brave for his part in stopping the shooting that the Marine Corps issued a statement commending him.

“Brendan’s courage and commitment to swiftly ending this tragic incident at the risk of his own safety is admirable and inspiring,” Marine Corps Capt. Michael Maggitti said in a statement, according to the USA Today. “His decisive actions resulted in the safety and protection of his teachers and fellow classmates.”

For those that might not know, the Delayed Entry Program is described as the following according to the Marines:

The Delayed Entry Program (DEP) provides young men and women with the opportunity to enlist in the Marines even though they might not go to recruit training for a year. Participants are called Poolees. Poolees in the DEP have weekly meetings with their recruiters to ensure they are continuously making strides to prepare for recruit training.

Bialy is reportedly going to be attending recruit training this summer.
