One America News Network’s (OANN) YouTube Channel has been suspended and the channel’s older content has been demonetized.
The Hill reports, the suspension is due to uploading a video allegedly containing misinformation about the coronavirus, which would violate YouTube’s Coronavirus guidelines.
YouTube reportedly removed the content and issued OANN a strike. It is unclear what specifically OANN's video said in regards to COVID-19 that made YouTube decide to suspend the channel.
A YouTube spokesperson told TechCrunch:
Since early in this pandemic, we’ve worked to prevent the spread of harmful misinformation associated with COVID-19 on YouTube. After careful review, we removed a video from OANN and issued a strike on the channel for violating our COVID-19 misinformation policy, which prohibits content claiming there’s a guaranteed cure. Additionally, due to repeated violations of our COVID-19 misinformation policy and other channel monetization policies, we’ve suspended the channel from the YouTube Partner Program and as a result, its monetization on YouTube.
It is not clear how many earlier violations YouTube claims previously accrued against OANN’s channel. TechCrunch reports that this is OANN’s first strike.
