A woman from Johnston, Iowa, was arrested on Thursday after leaving her four kids home alone while she went on a trip to Germany, reports The Des Moines Register.

Erin Lee Macke, 30, left the country on Sept. 20 for a 12-day trip without making any arrangements to provide her children with supervision while she was away.

Based on her charges, it appears as though she left a firearm with the kids.

Johnston police found the kids on Sept. 21 after receiving a call that young children — two 12-year-olds, one 7-year-old, and one 6-year-old — were left home alone.

After police discovered their mother left them home alone without supervision, the children were taken in by the Iowa Department of Human Services.

Police called Macke in Germany and demanded that she return home immediately. Upon return, she was arrested. She is currently booked in a local jail with no bond.

Macke faces charges of child endangerment and making a firearm available to a person under the age of 21, according to Johnston police.

The kids are now staying with family.
