Actor William Shatner received some backlash after jumping on Twitter to report his disdain for social justice warriors, sparking a series of contentious tweets between Shatner and others over SJWs' antics.
Shatner, who is no stranger to taking on SJW's online and has engaged in Twitter fights for some time now, recently found himself debating Twitter users over modern SJWs. Last week, in response to a question about his plans for the day, Shatner tweeted, "Tweet Hello. Have SJWs get offended by figuring some obtuse way to define it. Spend my day telling them off. You know, just a typical day."
In response, a Twitter user said that using the term SJW is "offensive to social people" and asked for him to use a "better word":
Actor Adam Baldwin chimed in and asked Shatner is social justice warriors "ever explain the difference between their 'social justice' and Justice?" Shatner replied:
One user took a more direct shot against Shatner claiming, "Progressives created and saved your career."
Other users lambasted Shatner for his criticisms of social justice warriors while being on a show they say was built on social justice.
This incident is a part of a growing anger from people who are upset that Shatner has not gone on to criticize President Trump like his fellow Star Trek co-stars, including celebrity left-wing activist George Takei, who has been one of the most vocal against Trump comparing him to "an alien life form" while on MSNBC. In 2016, Shatner was notably absent from an open letter from Star Trek alumni endorsing Hillary Clinton, which claimed that Trump stood in the way of the show's inclusive message.
Shatner has expressed an unwillingness to get involved in the political debate over Donald Trump, telling the Daily Beast in an interview, "I don't want to discuss Trump or [George] Takei."
Shatner continued, saying, "Listen, I'm Canadian and I'm apolitical. I love America. I consider myself a guest here. I won't do anything that might get me deported."
While many see his silence as tacit support, Shatner seems to want to just focus on his career. His jabs at SJWs does not seem to show open support for Trump, but rather an understanding of a growing issue that has come to concern even leftists.
