White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders during Tuesday's press briefing read to reporters a statement from President Trump, calling his son “a high-quality person” and applauding “his transparency.”

He asked that the press refer all of their questions about an email exchange with a so-called Russian intermediary to Trump Jr.'s legal counsel.

Sanders followed suit.

“On all questions related to this matter … I am simply referring you to people that can answer [your questions],” said Sanders. “I don’t have anything else to add.”

She said that the President had only learned of the meeting in the last couple of days.

The media are in a frenzy after news surfaced of an email exchange between Donald Trump Jr. and publicist Rod Goldstone. In the emails, Goldstone arranged for Trump Jr. a meeting with a Russian lawyer concerning "information that would incriminate" Hillary Clinton.

Trump Jr. seemed to readily accept the meeting, which he attended with then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner at Trump Tower in New York during the 2016 presidential campaign.

As theories and conspiracies swirled, Trump Jr. decided to release the entire email chain about the June 9 meeting on Tuesday, adding that nothing came of it and that he was “actually agitated” because it was a waste of time.

Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitska, who was identified by Goldstone in the emails as a “Russian government attorney,” in an interview on NBC Tuesday denied any connection to the Kremlin. She also said that she didn’t have any dirt on Clinton to offer.

The Senate Intelligence Committee is investigating the matter.
