The ever-rising violence in big cities never takes a break for any reason, at any time. Over the last two weekends, one shy of 100 people were shot in the city of Chicago. Meanwhile, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is too busy focusing on keeping the NFL’s Chicago Bears within the city limits to pay attention to the violence plaguing the city she was elected to improve. We’re still waiting for the improvements.

At least seven people were murdered and another 45 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the Father’s Day weekend. The number remains amazingly consistent from the previous weekend, which saw at least four people killed with another 43 wounded.

That’s right. In the past two weekends alone, at least 99 people were shooting victims in the “Second City.”

Here are the names and ages of those who lost their lives over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:

Unidentified Male, 21

Karina Paredes, 32

Gyovanny Arzuaga, 24

Unidentified Female, 28

King Collier, 31

As for the year-to-date totals for Chicago weekend shootings, 124 people have been murdered and another 694 have been wounded in Chicago in 2021. The Chicago Tribune, which keeps a tracker of all shooting victims in Chicago, is reporting that — as of June 14 — 1,587 people have been shot this year. That number is 195 more than at the same point in 2020, which saw the second most shooting victims in the last 10 years of tracking data.
